Welcome to Irlam and Cadishead Academy - A school of Standards and Character.

Dear Parent/Carer

Firstly, I would like to welcome you and your child to Irlam and Cadishead Academy (ICA). We are incredibly excited to be working with you over the next five academic years and I hope your child is looking forward to joining us in September as the ‘Class of 2027’.

As a school of ‘Standards and Character’, we are determined to do the best for your child. Each of our students are known as an individual. This means we can provide the right support as they strive to meet their academic potential, develop their own interests and thrive as young people. Through setting high standards of academic achievement and delivering an education with character, we strive to bring out ‘the best in everyone’.

Secondary school is a time for students to build on the foundations of learning and gain the knowledge, skills and qualifications they need to move on successfully. It is also an opportunity to develop positive qualities and characteristics that will prepare them for life in today’s world. Within our calm and supportive school environment, our young people are therefore encouraged to challenge themselves, succeed through failure and grow in confidence. Our approach is underpinned by our four core values:

  • Respect – for ourselves and others in all that we do;
  • Enthusiasm – to seek opportunity, find what is good and pursue talents and interests;
  • Ambition - to achieve the best for ourselves and others;
  • Determination – to overcome obstacles and reach success.

At ICA we aim to make the experience of transition a very positive one and we want you and your child to enjoy being an active part of our Academy community. We would like you to feel fully involved in your child’s academic life and feel secure in the knowledge that the very best education is being provided. ICA is incredibly proud to deliver a curriculum allowing an education which challenges, inspires and excites our students - we also have a rich and growing programme of co-curricular opportunities which are popular amongst our students.

Our students really are our best ambassadors – they are polite, respectful and courteous. Most of all, they enjoy their learning and that is what, as teachers, we know will stay with them for life. Please see statements of encouragement from our current year 7 students.

In the meantime, may I ask you to encourage your child to try some of our Transition Activities on our Website. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to be introduced to the type of work they will complete once they are students here at Irlam and Cadishead Academy.

If you have any further questions, we would be more than happy to speak to you about how we can support your child. Additionally, the Academy will also be offering visits such as Coffee Mornings, Tours and another Open Evening; we will be in touch shortly with more information regarding these events.

Finally, please be assured that your child and their transition is at the forefront of our minds and feel free to contact myself or Mrs Lightfoot, Head of Year 7 via enquiries@irlamandcadishead.org.uk.

We are so excited to be starting this journey with you.

Kindest regards

Mrs J Sweeney - Assistant Principal
